The Redditch Local History Museum is a Community Museun, run by volunteers from the community, for the community.
To operate the museum we need volunteers from all sections of the community, all age groups, all backgrounds and from all ethinic and minority groups in the town.
We are pleased to see many people have volunteered to help in one way or another, and we need more, especially to run our outreach events and manage our archives.
We do appreciate that it is harder for some groups to volunteer. for example young members of the community are more often or not still working and therefore time is limited.
Levels of Involvement
We would like to hear from anyone who is interested in supporting the museum regards of what skills they have, what time they have available and what personal restriction they may have on movement, mobility or physical and mental Challenges.
Volunteers are required in the following areas:
- To help in the continuing fundraising and promotional activities.
- To decorate, prepare and maintain the premises.
- To help process, record and interpret the archives.
- To help design, document and create the museum exhibits.
- To staff the museum on a day to day basis when we are open.
IT Skills
We are also seeking volunteers who have specialist skills which will provide cross-role support of the IT infrastucture and systems which help us manage the museum.
This includes:
- Computing skills such as:
- Desk Top Publishing
- Image creation (Scanning, photography etc.) and post processing.
- Web Authoring (WordPress)
- Networking and PC set up
- Social media posting
- Video Blogging
- Video production including voice over
- Copy writing and proof reading
- Data input and analysis
Registering as a Volunteer
The Museum will be run entirely by volunteers. If you would like to be one of our volunteers, we will be asking you to fill in a Volunteering Form giving us your contact details and your volunteering preferences. These preferences will help us find the right opportunity to meet your volunteering aim and interests.
Hopefully, your interest in volunteering, and your skills and career experiences will attract you to one or more of our teams. Knowing this will enable us to meet in smaller groups, hear your ideas and inputs and get the show on the road. We also need to know when and for how long you wish to help, hopefully for at least half a day per week.
The Volunteering Form will also ask you to give us your working time preferences. A copy of the form is at the end of this Newsletter. Please fill one in and send it to us or bring it along when you first visit.
